"I can pad anything." There's no padding in Hoffman's acting. If I met this character on a blind date, it would not be till bedtime that I would know the truth! He does not act, he transforms himself.

He is a true legend!
FetidToecheese Says:
amazing how he had not developed the character at all at this point
pistachioguy Says:
@Mikeys - Julia Roberts??!! Brando's in there for a reason (and now that you mention it, Dean as well) - since they are more monodimensional actors -- they don't allow the roles to take over. I omitted several other brilliant American actors like Kevin Spacey, William Hurt, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Ed Norton, Denzel Washington, and older ones Poitier, Mitchum, Lancaster, Peck , Bogie, Peck, Gable, Grant, Stewart, who in fact can ACT..but Julia?..is you head screwed on straight?
MikeysGayToday Says:
I would not put Brando in this catagory.....In his time,he, Clift, Dean really changed the acting world.....Now Julia Roberts, LOVE HER, but always the same..... But GO DUSTIN!
rockstarrist Says:
Dustin is the Best actor in the world ! n look at him,,, wow,, I am his biggest fan on earth and I 'd just like to meet him atleast once before I die .. I am 21 n have watched all his movies... He doesn't act- he lives on screen
pistachioguy Says:
Real actor - can play any role he sets his mind on - thing with many (if not most) Hollywood actors is that they always seem to play themselves on screen every time, ie it's hard to get away from their personality, be it Pacino, de Niro, Nicholson, or Brando - only Hoffman is an "actor" who subsumes his personality in practically every role he's ever played - Kramer vs Kramer, Midnight Cowboy, Graduate, Tootsie, Sleepers, Lenny, Wag the Dog, Bathgate, Madigan, Outbreak...he's a national treasure
twilightedwardbella9 Says:
I saw him walking in downtown toronto, and my grandma and I started freaking out, and like, stalked him for half an hour. :PP But we never went up to him, cause he was with his family, But what a sight it was =D

obviously "dorthy" worked on her voice. i find "TOOTSIE" to be just a flawless American comedy movie!! If a European is to see this, for the first time, as an example of a great film, I think they would be impressed. And a very funny movie!! Hoffman is the best!
