The game is designed to get to the final boss at Level 27 if you never run away or grind.
The assumption is that most players stop after this.

Just what Miles needed to make the game less of a romp from here on out...double Amazy Dayzees...

Count me as another one who didn't know about 2:07. I never use Jammin' Jellies the way I challenge myself now, but hey, that's pretty neat they put a great item in an old place like that! (Super Hammering in the middle of nowhere is a bit more random than Spring Jumping there...so I'm counting it as backtracking)
Otherwise...yeah, this is the one thing you always dread in a run, the General White search. Something you hate the first time and still pretty much hate afterwards!

Mario easily found Goldbob. To operate the cannon, Mario and partners need to find General White. He was the bob-omb who lost his will to live in Petalburg. However, upon arriving at Petalburg, Mario is unable to find the general. Green Boots mentions that the general ran off to an island to the south.
Mario and partners head off to Keelhaul Key. Luck has it that this was the island General White was on! Subsequently, Pa Patch tells Mario that the general just left to visit an Arena or something. FUDGE!
Shortly after, Mario and partners arrive back at Glitzville. They talk with the owner of the Watering Hole. Remarkably, General White was on Glitzville (wonder how he got a ticket). Notwithstanding, the general had already left for a great tree. Oh geez, either General White is on the biggest world-seeing-vacation ever, or everyone in the game is trolling Mario.
Mario heads back to the Great Tree in the Boggly Woods. By Crackifer's Cookies, General White did go to this great tree! Unfortunately, he's already gone. Fudge, I can't believe how gregarious the general is right now. Didn't he lose the purpose of his life; what's he up to? A Puni let's Mario know that the general left to go to somewhere dark.
Arriving at Twilight Town, one of the residents there tells Mario that General White was at the town recently. So have our heroes finally found the general. NOPE! The incomprehensible general has already left Twilight Town, and our heroes don't have a clue where he went.
On a bright note, Mario has achieved Superstar rank. The directors of his battling set have renovated the stage, and man does it look good. Nothing like a beautiful red velvet curtain, and 200 seats for members. The only bad things I can say about this stage is that strange things can happen on this stage that can't happen on other stages--like a Bowser Statue crushing one side of the stage.
