No shit. Disallowing treatment would be cruel and unusual punishment. But that wasn't his sentence. So it's just negligence. I'm not saying it makes it any more okay to deny prisoners treatment, I'm just saying it's not cruel and unusual punishment because that wasn't even supposed to be part of the punishment it was just negligence.

I have a mate from Bucks, UK, now in Amsterdam, named Drew. We've had many fun filled discussions, of course takin' the piss out of each others country, playfully. The funniest effect he had on me was saying, "You cant honestly call yourself American, or North American, you are of the United States, & a Canadian could as easily claim to be American". I said, "Drew, you, and nearly every UK program I watch call us Americans, or Great Satan, but it worked. Now I say, Im from the states

Embarrassed is bang on. I am a huge fan of BBC and other UK TV shows like Qi, You've Been Watching, 10 o'clock Live, Mitchell and Webb, and so on. I bring it up because things I was hearing, especially on 10 o'clock Live about Cameron was doin me head in. I heard him say "More Super Nanny, Less Nanny State" & of course his Big Society...all have caused me to say to my UK friends...please dont let them turn you into us. The jingoistic fluff is step 1.

What freedom would that be? Which US folks are banging on about how free we are? I see complaint here, not support. If you find a boast in here, go to it, but most here are flummoxed and not feeling free at all, so, hey, how bout not beating down those of us who wish to make it better.

Im sorry, the tired, phone-it-in Cliché room is 32 pages to the right of this one, I believe that is what you're looking for.

disallowing treatment is cruel and unusual punishment, fact. Cruel and Unusual treatment is not limited to what is written in the sentencing. If your cell had a short in it that electrocuted you, that is negligence, it is at the point that treatment is denied that the plane is crossed into cruel and unusual...Id call willful neglect, with likely permanent causal suffering and injury cruel and unusual punishment any day.

From what I watched in shock over his first term, I'd not be surprised. Either he is the slickest ever, and never meant a word, has been told what will happen if he showed much Audacity or Hope, or he was so remarkably naive that he was bowled over from the go. If he comes out progressive in term 2, I will eat my words, gladly. As of now, not buying the grand chessmaster theory. Disclaimer: I do allow that he stepped into a shit explosion, not of his own doing, but still.

Your Femur is harder than structural concrete, I'd never heard the elbow was harder. The covering cartilage on my right elbow is ripped in half, i can roll it back under the skin, and feel the joint. The elbow isn't a bone in itself, anyhoot.

YES YES YES!!!! Tell us more about your utopia. How long have you lived in a Libertarian society, and what country are you in?

There is quite a lot of anti-US sentiment here in the UK and my experience has been very mixed, though I have spoken to some very intelligent, politically and socially savvy Americans. You don't need to hide your identity, though be prepared for some resistance - you'll need to prove yourself to be open to rational discussion and not arrogant to be welcomed. To be fair, I'm equally embarrassed by my own country.
painxtreme Says:
Not true, 70% of the paint in the US is manufactured in prisons, along with furniture, highway and street signs, and a multitude of other manufactured goods, which are then sold not only to govt agencies, but also name brands you know. At $1 a day, it is slavery by the back door, and again, the US forbids import of ANY item that is made by Prison Labor.
painxtreme Says:
That is precisely why I advocate Jury Nullification. If you are on a Jury for a case that is victimless, stand firm on not guilty. Statutes are little more than profit centers that destroy lives in response to a lot of very picayune matters that should be a person's individual freedom. I am not AT ALL advocating letting dangerous criminals or those whose actions harm others off the hook, but nullify the ridiculous, it is your right to vote "not guilty".

I'm afraid far too many don't.

Im guessing you're not in the US, and good on you for that. I wish I weren't, but that has to wait until retirement, Im hoping I can stand it long enough. Look down on our leaders, and those that are fools of this folly, but some of us are quite aware of how bad it is, and quite honestly, I am somewhat fearful when I travel to my beloved Europe due to our reputation. Many sew a Canadian flag patch on their jacket for that reason, i use my wheelchair.

I think under the NDAA, it may be the military that arrests us.
painxtreme Says:
You mean like a guy who may be completely terrified for his own life? Incarceration is one thing, having to be a "model prisoner", while simultaneously avoiding rape and violence, is quite another. There are people in prisons that simply do not have the mental fortitude to hold it together well enough to unburden you. Our model is to punish, not reform people who may be released as a bigger monster than they went in. But we love our payback in the US, Yesiree, Bob.
painxtreme Says:
It is institutionalized slavery. Prisons account for a huge amount of US manufacturing, and inmates are paid, at most, one dollar a day. The fun part is, it is illegal to import anything made by prison labor into the US from any other country. Oh, and you can choose not to participate, but that gets you solitary. Yes, private prisons are heinous, inhumane, hypocritical and disgusting to anyone who believes in Laws of the Constitution. (no i don't love criminals)

Nader believed in things as well, but in reality he gave us W. Now there is idealism, and shit practicality. Shit practicality is how much more could we skew the Supreme Court, by voting for an also ran. By all means, follow your best judgement, it is your choice, as it is also a legitimate choice to choose not to play this mad game any longer, as it is to vote for who would appoint Justices you trust. Judicial appointments are huge & should be part of any consideration.

I will let your argument stand on your own words; "And I don't recall Dr Paul ever saying he'll get rid of anything he can relating to government just to make it smaller". Now, maybe it is just woeful English, & you mean he isn't going to indiscriminately slice things to cut cost, but your statement —if that was the intent — it is not communicated in that statement. Ending those departments is Blue Sky madness. Don't post to dispute, I know you do, its ok
