I normally use a 120 volt air compressor, but I have also accomplished the same effect by using a 12-volt compressor running into a larger (5-gallon) tank. The 12-volt compressor runs from a 12-volt car battery that gets charged by solar energy. It takes a long time to build up pressure with the smaller pump, and will tend to burn it out, so I use the readily available 120 volt compressor usually. I just plug it in and it builds up to 125 psi pressure.
